Our Story

Lengishu was born out of a love affair with Africa

Our family’s love of Kenya began over 40 years ago during Minnie’s life-changing four-year stay in Nairobi, from which we gained a number of deep and lasting friendships, together with an appreciation of the beauty of this country and the friendliness of its people. As a result, we embarked on our first family safari holiday in Kenya some 20 years ago.

This was followed by three of our children volunteering to work and teach in different schools across the country before they went to university. Frequent visits to Kenya ensued, and learning that the Dyer family were looking for one last shareholder to help support their vision for conservation in Laikipia was too good an opportunity to miss. Now, some five years later, Lengishu is built and has become our home in Kenya. The primary focus was to make as little impact on the surroundings as possible by using sustainable and local building materials.

Our vision was to create an authentic Kenyan home, all the while providing the upmost in luxury and style. In addition to the dream of having this wonderful home for our family in the midst of Africa’s most inspiring wildlife reserve, we wanted to open our home to like-minded guests with a passion to experience and support rhino conservation on Borana Conservancy.

We are delighted to offer a truly sustainable safari experience at Lengishu House and its surrounding community as an exciting alternative to the usual high end safari lodges in Kenya. With Lengishu as a luxurious base for unforgettable wildlife experiences, we are able to create magical adventures for our guests which will help to change the region’s fortunes for the better.
